We are the Linguistic Algorithms, Resources, and Conservation group at Indiana University Bloomington’s Department of Linguistics, led by Prof. Luke Gessler. We are united by our interest in algorithms and resources for computationally processing languages which are endangered or “low-resource” (lacking large quantities of digitized data).

Our recent work has attempted to advance the following goals:

• Realizing the benefits of human language technologies in endangered language documentation and conservation
• Developing higher-quality language technologies for low-resource languages
• Using techniques and knowledge from linguistics to develop evaluations for low-resource language technologies
