This is a Nepali form which appears as a loan in a number of Tibeto-Burman languages. Other areal words for DUCK that have been borrowed into TB are Indo-Aryan #5716 IA *battakh DUCK, Mandarin #5718 CH *yāzi DUCK, and Austro-Tai #5713 PLB *bay¹/² DUCK.
