This root bears a suspicious relationship to #2264 PTB *m-hla SOUL / DEMON / GOD / BEAUTIFUL, the semantic association evidently residing in the supernatural beauty of the rainbow. In Lahu, however, the reflex of SOUL is ha, while the reflex of the present root is lâ, perhaps pointing to the prefixed allofam for ha and the unprefixed one for the lâ.
