There are three similar roots in this semantic area, all possibly related. Cf. #4903 PTB *hnuay RUB / CRUMPLE / TWIST and #2512 PTB *s-nu(l/r) RUB AGAINST / GRAZE / TOUCH.
There is a very similar Tai root hnuat (cf. Siamese nùat ‘rub, massage’), which looks as if it has some sort of contact relationship with the present root.
