This root has only been found in a few languages, two Himalayish (Dumi, Tamang) and one Qiangic (rGyalrong), though the phonological and semantic fit among them is excellent. See TBRS #121.
There is a probably fortuitous resemblance between this root and #3426 PTB *pwat PENIS.
