This root is perhaps allofamically related to #786 PTB *s-la LEAF / TEA / FLAT THING.

Chinese comparandum

OC *di̯ɑp, GSR #633d ‘leaf, foliage, generation’; Li 1971: *rap; Baxter 1992 #1037: *ljap; B & S 2011: *l[a]p; Schuessler 2007:562; Mand. .

ZJH: The ordinary Chinese word for ‘leaf’ ( Mand. ) is a likely cognate to this PTB root for ‘wing’; the shape-based semantic connection is obvious. Furthermore, Schuessler (2007:562) notes that “In some southern dialects [of Chinese] also seems to be the word for ‘wing’”. Schuessler compares the Chinese to PTB *lap ‘leaf’ (STC #321). It seems to me that #757 PTB *lap WING / FEATHER ‘wing’ and PTB *lap ‘leaf’ are likely to be in the same word family, and that this Chinese word for ‘leaf’ is cognate.
