Note that quite a number of Himalayish languages have borrowed Nepali hāD (hāḍ) ‘bone’ for words for ‘bone’ and ‘rib’. See Turner p. 807, who reconstructs *haḍḍa- (Ass. hār; Beng. hāṛ) and notes that the “connection with aṣṭhi very doubtful”.
